Planning & Demand Recruitment

Most supply chain failures trace back to a forecast. We find the demand planners who get it right before it becomes a problem.

Ask most supply chain leaders where things go wrong, and the answer usually traces back to planning. Poor demand forecasting creates the ripple that becomes a stockout, an overstock, a missed production run or a service level failure. The planning and demand function is where data, commercial insight and operational reality have to come together, and when the right people are in those roles, the entire supply chain runs more predictably and more profitably. Finding them, however, is harder than it looks.

As a specialist demand planning recruitment agency, we recruit across the full planning and demand function. Whether you need a Demand Planner building forecasts from the ground up, a Supply Chain Analyst turning data into actionable insight, or a Head of Demand Planning leading the function at a strategic level, we understand what good looks like at every level of seniority. We support you through the whole process, from benchmarking and job specification creation through to shortlists, presentation strategy, offer management and ongoing support after hire.

Planning and demand roles sit at the intersection of analytical capability and commercial awareness, and that combination is rarer than most businesses expect. The ability to build a credible forecast matters, but so does the ability to challenge it — to push back on an over-optimistic sales number or flag a production constraint before it becomes a problem. The best people in this space are confident working with data, comfortable in cross-functional conversations, and sharp enough to know when the model is telling a different story to the business. As a specialist demand planning recruiter, we know how to assess for all of it.

Whether you’re hiring a Demand Planner, Senior Demand Planner, Forecasting Analyst, Materials Planner, Production Planner, Supply Chain Analyst, Inventory Planner, Planning Analyst or Head of Demand Planning, our approach delivers candidates who can hit the ground running and make a genuine difference to your planning cycle. Supply Chain Analyst

International Pet Food & Supplements Business

It was a straightforward match that a more passive recruitment approach had simply failed to make.

An international pet food and supplements business approached us having spent several weeks trying to fill a Supply Chain Analyst vacancy through their usual channels. The role sat within their planning function and required someone who could analyse demand patterns across a complex product range, support the forecasting process and provide the kind of data-driven insight that would improve decision-making across procurement and production. It wasn’t a senior role, but it was an important one, and the business had been frustrated by the quality of candidates they’d seen. Applications had come in, but the analytical capability simply wasn’t there. The candidates who looked good on paper hadn’t performed in interview, and the ones who had performed hadn’t had relevant supply chain context.

Rather than running another advertising campaign and waiting for a different result, we recommended a straightforward headhunt approach. We identified a targeted list of businesses in adjacent sectors where supply chain analysts would be working across similarly complex, multi-SKU product ranges, including pet care, FMCG, food supplements and consumer healthcare. Within that list we mapped out individuals at the right level of experience and seniority, and began direct outreach with a clear and honest picture of the role, the business and what the opportunity offered.

The response was strong. Because we were approaching people with relevant experience directly, rather than waiting for the right person to happen to see an advert, the quality of conversations was immediately higher. We presented a shortlist of three credible candidates within the first week. The client interviewed all three, made an offer at the end of week two, and it was accepted. From initial briefing to accepted offer: fourteen days. The appointed candidate came from a consumer healthcare background, had strong experience in demand analysis across a wide product portfolio, and was looking for a move into a business with more momentum and a more interesting product category. It was a straightforward match that a more passive recruitment approach had simply failed to make.

Planning & demand recruitment FAQs

Practical answers about demand planning recruitment, analytical assessment, sector experience and the areas we cover.

What is the difference between demand planning recruitment and supply chain analyst recruitment?

Demand planning recruitment focuses specifically on the forecasting and demand management function, covering roles like Demand Planner, Senior Demand Planner, Forecasting Analyst and Head of Demand Planning. Supply chain analyst recruitment is broader, covering analytical roles that support multiple areas of the supply chain including planning, inventory, procurement and operations. In practice there is significant overlap, and many businesses use the titles interchangeably. As a specialist demand planning recruiter, we take the time at briefing stage to understand exactly what the role needs to deliver, rather than relying on the job title alone to define the search.

How do you assess analytical capability in planning and demand candidates?

Beyond the CV, we probe for it directly in our screening conversations. We ask candidates to walk us through how they’ve built or improved a forecasting process, how they’ve handled a situation where the forecast was significantly wrong, and how they communicate data-driven recommendations to stakeholders who aren’t working with the same numbers. We also look for intellectual curiosity and a willingness to challenge assumptions, because the best demand planners and supply chain analysts aren’t just technically capable, they’re commercially engaged. Someone who can build a model but never questions whether the inputs are right is only half the hire you need.

Do planning and demand roles vary significantly by sector?

Yes, and it matters more than people often expect. Demand planning in FMCG, where promotional activity, seasonality and retailer relationships drive significant volume variation, looks quite different to demand planning in pharmaceuticals, where regulatory constraints and shelf life considerations shape the planning horizon. Pet food and supplements, as in our case study, brings its own complexity around multi-SKU ranges, ingredient sourcing and international distribution. We factor sector context into every demand planning recruitment search we run, because a candidate who has only ever planned in a stable, low-volatility environment may struggle in a business where the forecast changes every week.

Can you recruit interim planning and demand professionals as well as permanent hires?

Yes. Interim demand planning and supply chain analyst roles are often needed at short notice, whether to cover a sudden departure, support a system implementation or provide capacity during a period of rapid growth. Interim searches require a faster, more targeted approach, and the screening process focuses more on speed of impact and adaptability than it would for a permanent hire. Our headhunt-led approach, as demonstrated in our case study above, is particularly well suited to interim demand planning recruitment where time is short and the quality bar still needs to be high.

What areas do you cover for demand planning recruitment?

We focus on demand planning recruitment across the South of the UK, including London, Reading, Oxford, Southampton, Guildford and Milton Keynes, and we’re also regularly trusted with hires further afield for businesses running multi-site or international planning functions. Wherever the role is based, our approach stays consistent: proactive sourcing, genuine sector understanding, and a candidate profile built around what the role actually requires rather than the job title alone.
