We Recruit

Transport & Logistics Recruitment

The UK moves an estimated 1.5 billion tonnes of goods a year, and it all runs on people.

Every supply chain depends on transport and logistics to function. It’s the discipline that connects every other part of the chain, moving raw materials in, finished goods out, and keeping the entire operation running to schedule. When transport and logistics leadership is strong, costs are controlled, delivery reliability is high and the rest of the business can plan with confidence. When it isn’t, the consequences are visible almost immediately: missed delivery windows, rising freight costs, inventory in the wrong place at the wrong time, and customers who notice. Finding the right person to lead your logistics or transport function isn’t just an operational decision, it’s a commercial one.

As a specialist logistics and transport recruitment agency, we’re here to support you through every step of the process. Whether you’re a logistics director, transport director, or HR specialist running the search, we’ve got you covered. From benchmarking and job specification creation, to shortlists, presentation strategy, offer management, and ongoing support after hire, we make sure the vacancy isn’t just filled, you’re supported long term.

Logistics and transport roles are some of the most operationally demanding in any supply chain. Every business moves goods differently, and success depends on more than route planning and fleet management. It’s about understanding how transport decisions affect cost, delivery reliability and customer satisfaction, and finding someone who can keep a complex, moving network running smoothly under pressure.

Whether you’re hiring a Logistics Manager, Transport Manager, Logistics Director, Transport Director, Head of Logistics or Head of Transport, our approach as a specialist logistics recruiter and transport recruiter delivers candidates who understand both the operational detail and the bigger picture behind it.

Case Study

Logistics Manager

Agroscience (Biological Pest Control)

They were appointed within seven weeks, redesigned the company's shipping protocols within their first quarter, and the business has had zero biological stock losses in transit since.

Working with a business that develops biological pest control products, including live beneficial insects used to manage crop pests without chemical pesticides, the company faced a logistics challenge most general recruiters had never encountered. Their product wasn't a pallet of boxed goods; it was live organisms at various life stages, some shipped as adults, others as eggs, all of which needed to arrive alive and viable. Standard cold chain logistics didn't apply either, since freezing would kill some of the product entirely, meaning the temperature and time window for transport was narrower and more variable than typical perishable goods.

The business had previously hired a Logistics Manager directly with strong general FMCG cold chain experience, assuming temperature-controlled logistics expertise would transfer across. It didn’t. So they turned to us as a specialist transport recruiter to find a candidate who genuinely understood temperature-sensitive logistics beyond standard refrigeration, ideally someone with exposure to live biological materials, pharmaceuticals, or another sector where “temperature-controlled” didn’t simply mean “keep it cold.”

Rather than searching broadly for cold chain logistics experience, we built a profile around candidates who had managed transport of genuinely fragile, time-critical, non-frozen biological or medical cargo, where the consequence of getting it wrong wasn’t just stock damage but total product loss.

This led us to a Logistics Manager working in veterinary pharmaceuticals, managing the transport of temperature-sensitive vaccines that also couldn’t tolerate freezing and had strict viability windows. They weren’t familiar with agroscience specifically, but the core challenge, transporting a living or biologically active product within a narrow, non-frozen temperature range, was one they’d solved repeatedly. They were appointed within seven weeks, redesigned the company’s shipping protocols within their first quarter, and the business has had zero biological stock losses in transit since.

Transport & logistics recruitment FAQs

Answers about specialist logistics recruitment, sector experience, transport modes and the regions we cover.

Do you recruit for third-party logistics companies as well as in-house logistics functions?

Yes, and it’s an important distinction. In-house logistics roles sit within a business whose primary focus is something other than logistics itself, a manufacturer, retailer or distributor who needs strong transport leadership to support the wider operation. Third-party logistics (3PL) roles sit within businesses where logistics is the product, meaning the commercial pressures, the client management demands and the operational complexity are often significantly higher. We recruit across both, and we understand the difference in mindset and experience each environment requires. A strong in-house Logistics Manager won’t automatically thrive in a 3PL environment, and vice versa, so we factor that into how we build the candidate profile from the start.

Can you source logistics candidates with specialist modal experience, such as sea freight or rail?

Yes. While many logistics recruitment searches focus on road transport and general freight management, we also recruit for roles where specialist modal knowledge is central, including sea freight, rail logistics and multimodal operations. These are genuinely niche searches because candidates with deep expertise in a specific freight mode, particularly at a senior level, represent a much smaller pool. Our approach in these cases is proactive by necessity: we’re identifying and approaching the right people directly rather than waiting for applications, which is exactly where our sourcing capability as a specialist logistics recruiter makes a difference.

How does the logistics recruitment market differ by sector?

Significantly. A Logistics Director in fresh food operates in a completely different environment to one in industrial manufacturing or e-commerce fulfilment, even if the job title looks identical. The regulatory pressures, the margin sensitivity, the technology stack and the pace of operation all vary enormously. This is why we take the time to understand your sector before we start building a candidate profile, rather than treating logistics recruitment as a generic search. The best logistics hire for your business is rarely the person with the most impressive CV in the abstract; it’s the person whose experience most closely maps to the specific operational reality you’re working in.

What are the most in-demand skills in logistics and transport recruitment right now?

Technology fluency has moved from a differentiator to a baseline requirement. Businesses increasingly want logistics and transport leaders who understand route optimisation platforms, warehouse management systems and real-time freight visibility tools, not just operationally but strategically. Alongside that, sustainability and carbon reporting are featuring more prominently in logistics briefs, particularly for businesses with ambitious scope 3 emissions targets where transport is a significant contributor. We’re also seeing strong demand for candidates who can manage third-party carrier relationships with real commercial rigour, as businesses look to get more from their logistics partnerships rather than simply renewing contracts on existing terms.

What areas do you cover for transport and logistics recruitment?

We focus on transport and logistics recruitment across the South of the UK, including London, Southampton, Portsmouth, Reading and Milton Keynes, and we’re also regularly trusted with hires further afield and with international logistics hires for businesses managing cross-border or global supply chains. Wherever the role is based, our approach stays consistent: proactive sourcing, genuine sector understanding, and a process built around finding the right fit, not just the first available candidate.

I've never recruited a logistics or transport role before. Where do I start?

Start by being honest about what you need to bring in from a skills perspective, and what problem the role really needs to solve both now and in the future, rather than starting with a generic job title. Transport and logistics roles vary enormously depending on the goods involved, business size, the complexity of the network, and the regulatory or handling requirements specific to your industry, and a vague job spec tends to attract the wrong candidates. As a specialist transport recruiter, we’ll talk through the specifics of your operation, help you shape a job specification and salary benchmark that reflects reality, and guide you through the rest of the process from there.
