Pricing Recruitment

A 1% shift in price can move profit more than almost any other lever.

Pricing sits at the centre of an efficient supply chain, guiding product development costs, balancing supply and demand, recovering costs across manufacturing and logistics, and protecting margin when conditions change. Get it wrong, and that imbalance shows up everywhere else in the business. This is why pricing recruitment matters so much: it doesn’t matter how well the rest of your supply chain runs if your products won’t sell, or you can’t maintain healthy profit margins.

As a specialist pricing recruitment agency, we’re here to support you through every step of the process. Whether you’re a pricing director, commercial leader, or HR specialist running the search, we’ve got you covered. From benchmarking and job specification creation, to shortlists, presentation strategy, offer management, and ongoing support after hire, we make sure the vacancy isn’t just filled, you’re supported long term.

Pricing is one of the most analytically demanding and commercially sensitive roles in any supply chain. Every business prices differently, and success depends on more than technical modelling skill. It’s about understanding how pricing decisions ripple through demand, procurement and margin, and finding someone who can translate that analysis into recommendations the rest of the business can act on.

Whether you’re hiring a Pricing Analyst, Pricing Manager, Pricing Director, or Head of Pricing, our approach as a specialist pricing recruiter delivers candidates who understand both the numbers and the commercial impact behind them.

Case Study

Pricing Manager

FMCG Manufacturer

They were appointed within six weeks of being engaged, and within their first year had renegotiated two private label contracts that materially improved margin.

Working with a mid-sized food manufacturer that supplies both branded and private label products into the major UK supermarkets, the business had grown quickly through several private label contract wins, but pricing decisions were still being made informally between commercial and finance, with no one owning the process end to end. As private label margins came under pressure from rising ingredient and packaging costs, the board recognised they needed a dedicated Pricing Manager who could bring structure to pricing decisions while also holding their own in commercial negotiations with major retail buyers.

The business had initially briefed a generalist recruitment agency, and while the candidates presented were technically capable analysts, none of them had the commercial confidence to sit across the table from a retailer buying team and defend a price increase. A couple of candidates were strong on Excel modelling but had never actually negotiated anything, while others had retail buying backgrounds but lacked the analytical rigour to build a defensible pricing model in the first place. After three months and two failed final-stage interviews, the role was still open and the business was losing margin every month it remained unfilled.

We were brought in at this point, and rather than simply rerunning the same search, we started by understanding why the previous candidates hadn’t landed. It became clear the business needed someone who had sat inside an FMCG pricing or category function, ideally with exposure to both branded and private label dynamics, and who had genuine experience presenting pricing recommendations directly to retail buyers, not just to internal stakeholders. We built a profile around that combination specifically, rather than searching for “Pricing Manager” as a generic title.

Knowing this candidate profile would be rare, we didn’t rely on inbound applications. We approached pricing and category professionals directly at competitor manufacturers and select retailers, focusing on people who had been part of a private label pricing renegotiation in the last two years. This led us to a Senior Pricing Analyst at a competitor business who had recently led pricing through a major retailer contract review but had been overlooked for promotion internally. They weren’t actively job hunting, but the opportunity to step up to Pricing Manager and take ownership of the function was enough to bring them to the table. They were appointed within six weeks of being engaged, and within their first year had renegotiated two private label contracts that materially improved margin.

Pricing recruitment FAQs

Practical guidance on recruiting pricing specialists, benchmarking roles and assessing analytical and commercial judgement.

What can a pricing recruitment agency offer that we can't do ourselves?

Most businesses can run a pricing search internally, but the challenge isn’t posting a job ad, it’s reaching the candidates who aren’t looking. The strongest pricing professionals are usually employed, performing well, and not actively browsing job boards. As a specialist pricing recruiter, we know where this talent sits, how to approach them, and how to read whether someone’s analytical skill is matched by the commercial judgement the role actually needs. We also support the parts of the process that get overlooked when hiring internally, including benchmarking salaries accurately, writing a job specification that attracts the right calibre of applicant, and managing offer negotiations so a strong candidate doesn’t fall through at the last stage.

How long does the pricing recruitment process take?

It depends on the seniority and specificity of the role, but most pricing searches run from initial briefing to offer within six to eight weeks. Senior or highly specialist roles, such as a Head of Pricing with a particular sector background, can take longer simply because the pool of suitable candidates is smaller and many of them aren’t actively job hunting. We’ll always give you a realistic timeline at the start of the process based on the seniority of the role and how niche the requirements are, rather than a generic estimate.

What types of pricing roles can you recruit for?

We recruit across the full pricing function, from Pricing Analyst and Pricing Manager through to Pricing Director and Head of Pricing, as well as related roles such as Revenue Management and Commercial Pricing positions. Whether you need someone building pricing models day to day or someone setting pricing strategy at a leadership level, we understand the difference in skill set and seniority each role demands.

What areas do you cover for pricing recruitment?

We’re focused on pricing recruitment across the South of the UK, including London, Reading, Oxford, Southampton and Guildford, and we’re also regularly trusted with hires further afield and with international pricing hires for businesses operating across multiple markets. Wherever the role is based, our approach stays the same: proactive sourcing, genuine market knowledge, and a process built around finding the right fit, not just the first available candidate.

I've never recruited a pricing role before, where do I start?

Start with a conversation, not a job advert. Pricing roles are often misunderstood internally, with businesses unsure whether they need an analyst, a strategist, or someone who can do both, and that uncertainty leads to vague job specs that attract the wrong applicants. As a specialist pricing recruitment agency, we’ll talk through what the role actually needs to achieve for your business, help you shape a realistic job specification and salary benchmark, and guide you through the rest of the process from there. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you speak to us, that’s exactly what we’re here for.
