Supply Chain & S&OP Recruitment

Around 2.7 million people work across the UK supply chain — yet 85% of the best aren't looking.

In most businesses, Supply Chain & S&OP is the function that holds everything together. It’s where commercial ambition meets operational reality, translating sales forecasts into production plans, aligning procurement with demand, and ensuring the business can actually deliver what it’s promising to customers. When Sales & Operations Planning works well, the entire organisation runs with greater confidence, less waste and fewer expensive surprises. When it doesn’t, the symptoms show up everywhere: excess inventory, missed service levels, reactive firefighting and a planning cycle that nobody quite trusts. Getting the right supply chain and S&OP leader in place isn’t just a functional hire, it’s foundational.

As a specialist supply chain recruitment agency, we work with businesses across the full spectrum of Supply Chain & S&OP, from growing businesses building their Sales & Operations Planning capability for the first time, to established international organisations looking to strengthen or transform an existing function. Whether you’re a supply chain director, operations leader, or HR specialist running the search, we’re here to support you through every step of the process, from benchmarking and job specification creation through to shortlists, presentation strategy, offer management and ongoing support after hire.

Supply Chain & S&OP roles demand a rare combination of analytical rigour, cross-functional influence and commercial awareness. A strong Sales & Operations Planning leader doesn’t just run the planning cycle, they bring sales, finance, procurement and operations into genuine alignment, often across multiple sites or markets. Whether you’re hiring a Supply Chain Executive, Supply Chain Manager, Head of Supply Chain or Supply Chain Director, our approach as a specialist supply chain recruiter delivers candidates who can operate at both the detail and the strategic level, and who understand that S&OP is as much about people and process as it is about numbers.

Case Study

Interim Senior S&OP Leader

International Food Brand (Spain)

The Belgian consultancy regarded the placement as one of the most successful elements of their engagement, and the food brand's Supply Chain & S&OP function was transformed as a result.

This assignment came to us via a Belgian supply chain consultancy engaged by a Spain-based international food business to address significant challenges in their manufacturing and demand planning operation. Production schedules were misaligned with sales demand, inventory levels were inconsistent, and the planning process lacked the structure and leadership needed to bring the commercial and operational sides of the business into sync. The consultancy had been brought in to diagnose and resolve the issues, but recognised early on that what the client really needed alongside the consultancy engagement was a senior interim S&OP specialist embedded within the business, someone who could roll their sleeves up, troubleshoot the existing process, and drive meaningful change from the inside.

The consultancy’s preference was for a UK-based candidate, both for the depth of Sales & Operations Planning talent available in the UK market and for the practical reason that English was the working language of the assignment. The ideal profile was a senior supply chain professional with a strong track record in S&OP within complex, multi-site food or FMCG environments, the confidence to challenge existing processes at leadership level, and the personal flexibility to be based in Spain for the duration of the engagement. They had already attempted to source this candidate directly, approaching a number of UK-based supply chain professionals through their own network. The response had been underwhelming. Several candidates had the technical credentials on paper but lacked the gravitas to operate at the level the role demanded. Others had the seniority but were either unwilling to commit to an international posting or hadn’t genuinely thought through what that commitment would mean in practice.

We were engaged at this point and took a different approach from the outset. Rather than treating this as a conventional supply chain recruitment search, we recognised that the barrier wasn’t finding candidates with the right S&OP experience, it was finding the right combination of experience, seniority and genuine personal appetite for an international interim role. We developed a targeted advertising and outreach strategy designed specifically to surface senior supply chain professionals who had either worked internationally before or had a personal situation that made a time-limited overseas posting genuinely attractive rather than merely tolerable. Alongside the search itself, we built a structured screening process that probed candidates not just on their Sales & Operations Planning credentials but on their personal circumstances, motivations and realistic appetite for the travel and lifestyle commitment involved. Several strong candidates fell away at this stage, which was exactly the point: finding someone who said yes was less important than finding someone who genuinely meant it.

This led us to a highly experienced supply chain consultant with an extensive background in S&OP transformation within international food and FMCG businesses. They had led Sales & Operations Planning overhauls across multiple European markets, were fluent in English, comfortable operating at board level and, crucially, were at a point in their career and personal life where an international posting was not just acceptable but appealing. They were placed within six weeks of the search beginning.

The impact was immediate. Within their first two months, they had restructured the client’s S&OP cycle, introduced a more rigorous demand sensing process and significantly improved the alignment between the sales and production planning teams. What had been commissioned as a fixed-term interim engagement was extended twice at the client’s request, with the candidate ultimately remaining in post for considerably longer than originally planned. The Belgian consultancy regarded the placement as one of the most successful elements of their engagement, and the food brand’s Supply Chain & S&OP function was transformed as a result.

S&OP recruitment FAQs

Guidance on recruiting S&OP leaders, balancing planning and operations experience, and assessing cross-functional influence.

What types of supply chain and S&OP roles do you recruit for?

We recruit across the full Supply Chain & S&OP function, including Supply Chain Executive, Supply Chain Manager, Head of Supply Chain, Supply Chain Director and specialist Sales & Operations Planning roles at all levels of seniority. We place both permanent and interim supply chain professionals, and our case study above is a good example of the kind of niche, cross-border interim search where specialist supply chain recruitment capability makes a genuine difference. Whether you need someone to own the day-to-day planning cycle or someone to lead a wholesale transformation of your S&OP process, we understand the difference in what each level of role actually demands.

What makes a strong S&OP leader, and how do you assess for it?

Sales & Operations Planning is one of those disciplines where technical competence is almost table stakes. The candidates who genuinely excel are the ones who can bring an entire organisation into alignment, which requires influence, credibility and the ability to facilitate difficult conversations between functions that often have competing priorities. In our experience, the best S&OP leaders are comfortable challenging both the sales forecast and the production plan in the same meeting, without losing the room. We assess for this through structured, in-depth conversations that go well beyond the CV, exploring how candidates have navigated cross-functional conflict, how they’ve handled planning cycles that broke down under pressure, and what their instinct is when the numbers don’t add up. The technical questions are important, but it’s the behavioural ones that tell us most.

Do you recruit for interim supply chain and S&OP roles as well as permanent positions?

Yes, and it’s an area where our approach as a specialist supply chain recruiter adds particular value. Interim Supply Chain & S&OP searches are often more time-pressured and more specific than permanent hires, with businesses needing someone who can make an impact quickly rather than learning the role over several months. We’ve placed interim supply chain and Sales & Operations Planning leaders across a range of situations, including transformation programmes, maternity cover, capacity gaps during periods of rapid growth, and assignments like our case study above where the requirement was international and highly specialist. The screening process for interim roles is different too: we place more weight on pace of impact, adaptability and how quickly a candidate can get up to speed in an unfamiliar environment.

How does supply chain recruitment differ for international or multi-site organisations?

Significantly. A Supply Chain Director managing a single UK site has a fundamentally different role to one overseeing operations across multiple countries, languages, regulatory environments and time zones. The supply chain recruitment brief looks similar on paper but the candidate profile is very different, requiring broader stakeholder management experience, greater comfort with ambiguity and often specific language or cultural knowledge. We’ve placed supply chain professionals into international roles across Europe and beyond, and we understand how to screen for the combination of technical S&OP expertise and personal resilience that those assignments demand.

What areas do you cover for supply chain and S&OP recruitment?

We focus on supply chain recruitment and S&OP recruitment across the South of the UK, including London, Bristol, Reading, Southampton, Winchester and Milton Keynes. As our case study above shows, we’re also regularly trusted with international assignments where the requirement is genuinely specialist. Wherever the role sits, our approach stays the same: proactive search, structured screening, and candidates who can operate at both the detail and the strategic level.
